Sustainability Meetup #1

Elliana Jensen-Abieva

Donnerstag 06.07.2023 18:00 - 20:00 Uhr - 2 Stunden Köln, STARTPLATZ

Until now, a circular economy was often not attractive for cost reasons and was therefore rarely relevant. Companies are currently mostly working with the material that is cheapest in the short term. But that is about to change. Because availability and access to resources are becoming one of the biggest business risks for the industry. This is clearly shown by the current shortage economy after the pandemic. Companies have to shoulder enormous additional costs for urgently needed raw materials because heir prices are skyrocketing.

According to BCG (Boston Consulting Group) the market volume for the circular economy will be 200 billion euros in Germany and up to 800 billion euros in Europe. A global transition towards a carbon-neutral  circular economy is an opportunity for all companies to develop new business (born-circular), expand into new markets and create sustainable growth.

Now, "born-circular" companies and their new competitive business models are about to disrupt “linear” organizations and erode their market positions. But, as we saw with the digital revolution, legacy businesses that can adopt new circular business models will survive. To remain competitive from 2030, leaders must adopt circular business models, launch pilots and build a strategy for transitioning to the next economy – the circular economy.
